Jack Shreve has prosecuted as Assistant State Attorney, Assistant Brevard County Attorney (Assistant County Solicitor) and prosecuted for the City of Cocoa as City Attorney for 7 ½ years. He served as Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee in the House of Representatives. His major legislation includes, the law establishing the Statewide Grand Jury, total rewrite of the Criminal Code, comprehensive rewrite of the Drug Abuse Act in 1974, Driving While Drinking and Under The Influence legislation (which at that time was the toughest in the nation). Shreve was also instrumental in having major environmental legislation passed. Among the awards he received were the Outstanding Service Award from Florida League of Cities and the Outstanding Legislator Award from the Florida Police Chiefs Association.Mr. Shreve is in the Hall of Fame at the University of Florida, was President of Florida Blue Key, and lettered on the University of Florida Southeastern Conference track team.
Mr. Shreve currently serves on the Elder Law Advisory Board at Stetson University College of Law, Governor's Action Team on Energy and Climate Change, Dept of Children and Families Adult Protective Services Select Advisory Panel. He has been a member of the Governor's Florida Energy 2020 Study Commission and President of the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates from 1981 - 1983. He has been chairman of several committees including the Criminal Justice Committee; the Brevard Legislative Delegation; the Select Committee for Criminal Code Revision; the Select Committee on Driving While Intoxicated Control; and the Select Committee on Water Resource Management.
Mr. Shreve is the recipient of several other awards including the Florida Bar Association Claude Pepper Award 2005 Outstanding Government Lawyer 2005; University of Florida Business College Public Utility Research Center Service to the State of Florida Award 2004; State of Florida AARP State Leadership Award 2003; National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates Lifetime Service Award 2003; and the James C. Bonbright Utility Center University of Georgia Distinguished Service Award 2002. He was named Outstanding Legislator by the Sierra Club, and Conservation 70's. He received the Good Government Award from the Merritt Island Jaycees; the Water Conservation Award from the Florida Wildlife Federation.
Mr. Shreve was elected to the House of Representatives in 1970 and re-elected in 1972.
Mr. Shreve obtained his J.D. in law, as well as his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Florida. He is a former U.S. Navy jet and helicopter pilot.
