DCF Secretary Wilkins Prays for Children and Parents on National Day of Prayer

Secretary David Wilkins of the Florida Department of Children and Families delivered the following prayer at the May 5, 2011 National Day of Prayer rally at Florida’s Capitol. (See photo below)

Dear Lord, We honor you and give you praise for whom you are. We thank you for your words in Psalms 127:3 that says that "Children are a gift from the Lord." No child is an accident, so we praise you and thank you for creating each of these children in this wonderful state of Florida.

We thank you for creating stable marriages with loving parents who teach their children to become adults who care enough to give back to our communities.

Now Lord, we come to you and ask for you to give us guidance in the laws we pass, the programs that we provide, and the opportunities we have, to create a state that will allow each child to reach their full potential.

We pray for the protection of our children. Protect their spirit, body, mind, and emotions from any kind of evil or harm. We pray that you will provide each child with a home where they will feel safe and secure.

We especially thank you for the loving foster parents and adoptive parents who have given their lives to take the children that have been left behind and give them a home where they can grow in confidence and self esteem, knowledge and power to grow into the beautiful person that you created them to be.

We pray for the ones who are considering foster parenting or adoption. We pray that you will touch their hearts in a way for the “least of these," that they will not delay in making a positive difference in these children's lives.

Your words in Jeremiah 29:11 say, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I thank you for this promise for the innocent children, who may have lost their hope for a better future. I pray that they will have someone in their lives to help them realize that you haven’t given up on them.

Please lead, guide, and direct us in how to make that ‘hope’ come alive for each of these children and we will give you all the praise and glory.

Lord, we ask all of this in your name,
