Northwest Florida Community Partners Host World Refugee Day 2011 on Tuesday June 14
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –To recognize World Refugee Day, The Florida Department of Children and Families, Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, and the Florida State University Center for the Advancement of Human Rights are hosting an event to honor neighbors and friends who have fled their homelands and resettled in Northwest Florida.
It is important to address the needs of those escaping war, persecution, and violence, especially for the millions of children under the age of 18; women and girls, who are at an increased risk for discrimination and sexual violence; older refugees, who are particularly vulnerable to disease and disability; and people with disabilities, who are often deprived of the humanitarian aid.
