Back to School Summer Uniform Project Underway in Bay County
BAY COUNTY, FLA. – The Northwest Region of the Department of Children and Families (DCF), Big Bend Community Based Care and the Bay County Bar Association have teamed up to coordinate a school uniform project held through August 8, 2011.
“As another school year approaches our community partners would like for each child who is served by our local child welfare program to have a new uniform to wear on the first day of school.” said Vicki Abrams Northwest Regional Director for DCF.
The back to school summer uniform project is in its third year. All of the funds raised will be used to buy polo shirts for the youth that will comply with the Bay County Schools uniform policies. Over the past two years roughly 600 children have been able to start school with new uniforms and a heightened sense of confidence.
"On behalf of the children and families we serve, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community members for the unwavering support, participation and generosity as we build stronger families in our community," said Mike Watkins CEO of Big Bend Community Based Care.
"Both foster and biological families in our community can find it difficult to provide appropriate attire for the children in their homes. At school, as in the courtroom, first impressions are important and our children deserve no less," said Joseph Alldredge of the Bay County Bar Association.
