DCF Secretary David Wilkins Hosts Children and Youth Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday and Thursday
CLEARWATER, FLA. - The Florida Children and Youth Cabinet and its chair, Department of Children and Families Secretary David Wilkins, will meet on Wednesday and Thursday in Clearwater. The 20-member advisory group is charged with helping all children in Florida grow up safe, healthy, educated and prepared to meet their full potential.
There have been several major developments recently regarding the Children and Youth Cabinet:
- The Cabinet membership has expanded to include advisory members from the business community, faith-based community, higher education, law enforcement and military. Additionally, there will be an advisory position from the Youth Commission, with teen representatives presenting and having a seat at the table during each meeting. The teens will give a voice for the children and teens in Florida, and will ensure youth representation on the Cabinet.
- The Cabinet has formed four new work groups to focus on the important issues of Human Trafficking, Interagency Background Screening, Death Review Teams and Community Service Delivery to improve service integration.
- Cabinet members are meeting to discuss new and innovative ways to improve coordination between Florida agencies and organizations that deliver services to children and youth.
