FORT MYERS, FLA. – The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is partnering with Children's Network of Southwest Florida to host a resource fair for families in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Pinwheels for Prevention is part of a national campaign to change the way people think about prevention.
Community child welfare leaders will host a news conference to highlight the responsibility everyone has in the community to prevent child abuse. DCF Secretary David Wilkins will discuss the role of the department in ensuring every child has an equal opportunity for growth and development and recently passed legislation that allows the department to create an entire new framework for investigators that collects and analyzes data on individual families, providing more information as they check on the well-being of children.
Nadereh Salim, CEO of the Children's Network of Southwest Florida will discuss families most at-risk and how her organization works to strengthen families.
There are over 1,400 children already in the child welfare system in Southwest Florida. Local service providers will be at the event being held at DCF's Fort Myers office on Tuesday, April 17th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm to distribute information on healthy child development and community services for families.
