DCF TESTS EMERGENCY "FOOD FOR FLORIDA" PROGRAM
~ Mock exercise prepares for giving food assistance to those in need after a hurricane or other disaster ~

WHO: Department of Children and Families, Florida State Emergency Response Team (SERT)

WHAT: The DCF Hurricane Exercise will prepare conference participants with an overview of the upcoming 2012 hurricane season, review best practices, response and recovery and educate them on the "Food for Florida" disaster food assistance program.

On the second day, conference attendees will participate in a mock disaster exercise. This exercise will give the employees experience in determining eligibility of Floridians for disaster food assistance and ensure that individuals are not trying to fraudulently claim this assistance.

DCF runs the "Food for Florida" program under federal guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service. Florida distributed $270 million in emergency aid to more than 2 million people after Hurricane Wilma in 2005.

WHEN: May 23, 9 a.m.-Noon: Mock "Food for Florida" Disaster Assistance Exercise

WHERE: Northwood Centre, 1940 North Monroe Street, Tallahaassee
