DCF TO SPEND $5 MILLION TO ADD TREATMENT BEDS FOR MENTALLY ILL INMATES
- The additional beds are expected to reduce the wait time for inmates who need treatment. -

TALLAHASSEE- Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Secretary Lucy Hadi announced today that a plan to spend $5 million in state and federal funds to add 85 mental health treatment beds has been approved. The new beds will begin opening in mid-December.

"These beds will provide mentally ill offenders with the treatment they desperately need," said Secretary Hadi, "but there is still much to be done. We are committed to doing everything possible to speed the transfer of these inmates to treatment facilities."

Secretary Hadi said DCF leaders are working aggressively on additional strategies for resolving the statewide bed shortage. They hope to have more news to announce on this effort before the end of the holiday weekend.
