
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Statewide events:
- January 9, 1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Broward County Human Trafficking Task Force is showing "CNN Freedom Project, Not My Life" followed by a panel discussion, involving the U.S. Attorney, Homeland Security Investigations, FBI, Ft. Lauderdale Police Department. African-American Research Library.
- January 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Fight or Flight awareness booth at the University of Florida, Plaza of the Americas.
- January 9, 7 p.m.: Viewing of film “Immokalee USA” and discussion with director and farm workers featured in the film. Edison State College, Fort Myers, Building U Room 102.
- January 10, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: FIGHT will have a photo booth at the University of Florida, Plaza of the Americas.
- January 10, 10 a.m.: Packing party to prepare the bags for day laborers at Homestead Police Department.
- January 11, 7-11:30 a.m.: South Florida Human Trafficking Task Force will be visiting several sites to speak to the migrant community and hand out informational brochures.
- January 11, 9-10:30 a.m.: Broward County Human Trafficking Task Force is having a moment of reflection at Central Broward Regional Park with African-American church members. Central Broward Regional Park.
- January 11, 6-8 p.m.: Junior League of Jacksonville “Dine and Discussion” on human trafficking.
- January 11, 4-6 p.m.: Showing of the movie “Sold” by FIGHT, University of Florida, O’Connell Center.
- January 12, 6-8 p.m.: FIGHT has a panel discussion with DCF, local law enforcement, Alachua County Human Trafficking Task Force members and the U.S. Attorney on human trafficking. University of Florida, Reitz Union Rion Ballroom.
- January 13, 6-10 p.m.: FIGHT will be hosting an event depicting sex trafficking using dance and poems at University of Florida.
- January 14, 8 a.m.: 3rd annual "Run Toward Justice” 5K, sponsored by FIGHT at the University of Florida, Southeast Recreational Center parking lot.
- January 15: FIGHT is hosting “Free to Dance.” University of Florida.
- January 16, 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.: 2012 Art and Design for Social Justice Symposium panel discussion at Florida State University. “Creative Responses to Human Trafficking” panel will be from 10-11:15 a.m., William Johnston Building.
- January 19, 7 p.m.: Theresa Flores, survivor, author and advocate against human trafficking will share her story. Edison State College, Fort Myers, Building U Room 102.
- January 26, 7 p.m.: Human Trafficking Forum with local law enforcement and advocates. Edison State College, Fort Myers, Building U Room 102.
- January 27, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.: St Thomas University Law School workshop on human trafficking: “Justice at the Door: Ending Domestic Servitude.” Moot Court Room, 16401 NW 37th Ave., Miami Gardens.
- January 28, 1-4 p.m.: Orlando Rescue and Restore Coalition 4th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Day, Lake Eola.
- January 31, 1 p.m.: Observation of Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Florida Children and Youth Cabinet Meeting, Capitol Cabinet Meeting Room, Tallahassee.
